'misc' => 'Up Close Radio runs entirely on the goodwill of its volunteers. No one in the organisation gets paid, which means that any money we raise can be ploughed straight back in to our aims of supporting the communities within Torridge and North Devon.
We are always on the look out for new volunteers who want to join our team, whether you fancy yourself as an on-air presenter, a producer, a technician or as back-office staff, we\'ll happily talk to you about how you can help us and how we can help you.
Our Aim
We want to provide a truly community based radio stationfor the communities of Torridge and North Devon, offering music and entertainment with details of local events, organisations and up to date information such as local news and activities within the local area.
We also want to work with local charities and fund raising organisations in Torridge and North Devon, to help them raise their profile, and to promote their activities within our community.
There is more to radio than presenting a show, although we\'re always on the lookout for new presenters, either with some experience or with a desire to train and learn.
We also need lots of help working behind the scenes at Up Close - production support, news reporting, promotional activities and coordinating various other activities that we\'re involved with.
Volunteering at Up Close could not only give you a sense of satisfaction and new experiences but also new skills and knowledge to launch into a career of your choosing.
Volunteering remotely
Do you feel that you would like to volunteer with us, but don\'t live close enough to our Bideford studios? Contact us any way! We are working on a number of projects that will see us spread throughout the area and have physical presence somewhere near you. Whether you\'re in Holsworthy, Hartland, Ilfracombe or South Molton, we would love to hear from you so we can work out how we can help you to help us!
Presenting a show
Although radio is more than just playing music, and often the need for volunteers behind the scenes is greater than for those behind the microphone, we\'re always on the lookout for people interested in presenting shows. If presenting a show to your community is something which interests you, or perhaps you have some specific programme ideas, get in touch and we can provide presenter training and mentoring if you are interested.
Programming assistants
We need programme researchers and production support for some of our shows, and to work across the station in a variety of roles.
Radio programmes need content preparing for broadcast. From competition features or information on various subjects for presenters to read out, to arranging and researching interviews. You could even end up on the streets of your local community with a microphone asking people their opinions.
One person can’t do it all. If you have an interest in getting involved in the \'back office\' operations of radio then this role might be one for you, you can choose small jobs or go for a larger one. Its fun, you get to meet and work with the station staff and it\'s rewarding to hear your work going out on air
Local News
If you\'re interested in local news, news reading/reporting and interviewing people in your community, then why not get involved with Up Close Radio.
We\'re currently looking for news readers, weather forecast readers and reporters to help with our local news bulletins each day. Getting involved with the news team offers great opportunities.
Listings & Events
We\'re looking for a team of volunteers who can help co-ordinate information about what\'s going on in the many communities across Torridge and North Devon, which we can use across various shows.
If you\'re in tune with what\'s going on in the local area and your community and interested in this area, get in touch.
Sport
We\'re currently looking for contributors who are interested in reporting on local/community sports. If you\'re interested in any aspect of local sport please get in touch.
Event and Street Teams
We need bright bubbly people to form a promotions team at Up Close.
Help out your local station by giving out leaflets in supermarkets, standing in busy town centre\'s giving out car stickers or walking around the streets of Torridge and North Devon popping leaflets in doors.
You must be a bubbly happy person, outgoing and game for a laugh. Promotions can be fun, can involve you dressing in costume and even getting up to madcap antics. Who knows what the next phase of our awareness campaign may involve!!
